PSHEE and Citizenship

At WGSG, Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHEE) and Citizenship are delivered in a number of different ways.

In Years 7, 8 and 10 pupils have themed focus days. Each day is broken into a number of topics, each of which is based on a central theme. During these, pupils will experience a number of different styles of learning, from hearing from external speakers, to having debates and producing adverts to be recorded.

Comments from pupils include:

I think that this Focus Day was good because we looked at subjects we haven’t looked at before and it made me realise how little things can save someone’s life and make yours more enjoyable to live.” (Year 7)

It was interesting to talk about issues that affect us in our real lives and to get our questions answered.” (Year 10)

In Years 9 and 11 pupils have timetabled PSHEE lessons where they will get more time to consider options, either to make the correct GCSE choices or to make an informed decision about post 16 options.

Both PSHEE and Citizenship are also integrated in the lessons of many other subjects and pupils are actively encouraged to become more informed citizens across the curriculum.

Form times are also dedicated time to consider key topics such as supporting national events, for example: Black History Month, Anti-Bullying week and charity events.
