Mathematics
Mathematics affects everything that we do. It forms the basis for many other subjects including, Science, Geography, Business Studies and Design and Technology. It also leads on to numerous fulfilling and enjoyable careers.
KS3
We run an accelerated scheme of work in years 7 and 8 to enable all students to complete KS3 before the end of year 8. The students are taught in form groups in year 7 and placed in four sets at the start of year 8. A buddy system is organised for year 7 students who are less confident in mathematics, where the pupil will meet with a sixth form student on a regular basis.
KS4
Students begin their GCSE course at the start of year 9 and will complete the GCSE by the end of year 10. All year 9 students will be entered for the Higher GCSE modular examinations. They will sit their first module in March of year 9 and then two further modules in November and June of year 10. In year 11 the students are then given the opportunity to broaden their mathematical experience, by completing either a Level 2 qualification in Additional Mathematics, a Free Standing Mathematics Qualification in Finance or GCSE Statistics.

Year 7 Parents Challenge - Fun Maths
In November the Maths Department invite all Year 7 parents to an evening of Fun Maths. We provide information about the setting system in Maths, modern calculation methods and Functional Skills. We also provide an opportunity to experience My Maths (an online programme), some problem-solving games and the Fun Maths boxes.
Parents have found in the past the evening to be an enjoyable and informative experience, commenting that: “The level and scope of the Maths material was made interesting and fun and I am sure the other parents would agree that a pleasant and insightful time was had by all.”
