History

The History Department: KS5

 Our aim as a department is to foster an enthusiasm among our students to investigate past and present issues. We aim to provide a stimulating learning environment, both in the classroom and on our varied programme of trips.


 

AS HISTORY

Two units of study will be completed this year from the Edexcel GCE course, both examined units worth 25% each of the final A Level, or 50% each of the AS Level.

Unit 1: Historical Themes: we study Option D:

A World Divided: Communism and Democracy in the 20th Century.’

 From this option you will explore two topics:

1.      Pursuing Life and Liberty in the USA 1945-68.

2.      Politics, Presidents & Society, The USA 1968-2001

Unit 2: British History Depth Studies: we study Option A1

Henry VII: Authority, Nation and Religion 1509 - 1540.

A2 HISTORY

Two further units will be studied in Year 13: Unit 3 is an examination worth 30% of the A level; Unit 4 is coursework and worth 20% of the A Level.

Unit 3 focuses on depth studies and associated historical controversies – we study
Option D1: The Challenge of Fascism in Europe: From Kaiser to Fuhrer, Germany 1880-1945.

This links extremely well to Unit 1 where you will have studied ideas of Democracy.

Unit 4: Historical Enquiry

You will have the chance to study 'The changing role of women in Britain?'
The focus is on changing attitudes to female equality and the factors which influenced changes to the position of women during the C20th.
