History

An Introduction to the History Department

Our aim as a department is to foster an enthusiasm among our students to investigate past and present issues. We aim to provide a stimulating learning environment, both in the classroom and on our varied programme of trips.

At the end of Key Stage 3 all pupils should have a good understanding of the important themes that have shaped the United Kingdom and much of the world. We help students to track their own performance against the National Curriculum criteria once a term with a formal assessment. This then informs medium and long-term targets to help greater enjoyment and confidence in the subject.

Many girls carry on with the subject both to GCSE and A Level. The varied topics and assignments continue to encourage independent learning and enable the students to develop many valuable skills.

In all Key Stages we use a variety of teaching strategies to encourage appropriate learning, including the use of ICT, music, drama, audio and visual resources, debates, and a wide range of texts.
