Food Technology

The Technology department focuses on designing and making and gives students experience of working with Food, Textiles and Resistant Materials.

Our aims are to
  • Create a supportive learning environment for students, addressing, in particular, their diverse needs and different learning styles. Formative assessment and regular progress reviews play an important part in this process.
  • Provide focused enrichment opportunities that extend or develop the student’s ability to design.

  • Encourage a style of learning that embraces the imaginative use of technology coupled with proven traditional values.
  • Enable students to achieve greater independence and maturity through learning activities directed towards self-reliance, confidence and teamwork and to become autonomous and creative problem solvers.
  • Enable students to combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices.
  • Students experience technology rich in ICT whilst working with resistant and textile materials and food. They have three periods a week for technology at key stage 3 and are able to follow a comprehensive range of technology courses at GCSE and ‘A’ Level where results achieved far exceed the national expectations for the particular student group.
  • Follow the national curriculum while giving students the opportunity for extensive study in technology which embraces other areas of the curriculum such as mathematics, science and ICT.
