Overall Job Purpose

The Head of House role combines the provision of pastoral direction and House leadership for a fifth of the school population from Year 7-11, alongside a horizontal line management responsibility for student progress of a single year group.

Job role

To assist the Assistant Head with pastoral responsibility by overseeing the students within a designated year group and House to ensure they reach their potential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Have oversight of the conduct data for a KS4 year and liaise with form tutors and other appropriate staff to improve the attitude to learning and behaviours of students, as necessary
  • Monitor and follow up concerns relating to attendance, punctuality, dress code within the KS4 year
  • Lead a KS4 year group, ensuring events appropriate to the specific year are organised, e.g. Parents’ Evening, Options Evening, Student induction, Tutorial programme, tutor interventions etc.  Monitor the progress of students within the designated year group, analysing data drops to monitor where issues are arising and ensuring appropriate intervention is initiated
  • Take responsibility for leading house activities and encouraging student participation.  This will include the organisation of House assemblies and events/ competitions
  • Take responsibility for ensuring recognition is given to students in the designated House who are to be rewarded for excellent conduct
  • Provide guidance and advice to the Form Tutors within the designated House and ensure their obligations with regard to House activities are fulfilled
